Q&A: Which organic product is best for spraying fruit trees?

Question by Mary-Frances B: Which organic product is best for spraying fruit trees?
We have 14 fruit trees and this year we have sprayed with organic spray. One pear tree (maybe 8 years old) has black leaves and we seem unable to stop the spread. Do we need to go to stronger?

we generally use dormant oil early in the spring than lime sulpher for fungal attacks. Sounds like you might have fire blight which is incurable. take a sample of the disease to your county extension agent to get it ID’ed properly and ask them what they would suggest (they will in all likelihood suggest non organic ways of dealing with the problem)

the book Rodale’s Garden Problem Solver has a pretty good section on spraying fruit trees organically

Q&A: Best fertilizer organic for house plants?

Question by MICHAEL R: Best fertilizer organic for house plants?
I have been using organic fertilizer for months now and nothing seems to be greening up my leaves. I have gardenias, citrus trees and jasmine and the flowers are ubundant though. I have been all kinds of fish fertilizers and especially Neptunes Harvest and yet leaves are still light green to yellow. I have been told Organic is too low in nutrient for plants needs..What is the strongest Organic that fills all the house plants requirements for deep green leaves and flowers? I am tired of supplementing stuff like Epsom salt and others to hopefully think That it will help the organic not working for me.

Best answer:

Yellow leaves, poke rusty nails in the dirt around the plants. I would have suggested Coperas and MiracleGro, but you’re doing the organic thing. Fish emulsion and Epsom salts are the best I know if you are set on using organic.

I want to grow organic potatoes in a container garden?

Question by Hope C: I want to grow organic potatoes in a container garden?
All of the books I have read, say that you MUST use certified seed potatoes. Is there any reason I shouldn’t seed out some of the organic fingerling potatoes I already have? I can understand not using regular storebought potatoes, but shouldn’t organic be okay? Same question about sweet potatoes. Any tips or advice will be appreciated!

I would plant yours and the store bought, then what ever works best do that next year.

What organic molecule is produced by the incomplete metabolism of fats?

Question by Nate: What organic molecule is produced by the incomplete metabolism of fats?
I have a lab that I need to finish. In order to finish it, I have to answer this question… I have looked EVERYWHERE and can’t seem to find an answer.

ketone acetoacetate?

When glucose metabolism is suppressed, during starvation or in diabetics, fatty acids are used as a source of energy. But instead of entering the citric acid cycle, the acetyl-CoA produced from them is converted into the ketone acetoacetate. Some of this is then converted into acetone (which can be smelled on the breath of patients whose diabetes is out of control).

What are the benefits of eating organic food?

Question by Jackie T: What are the benefits of eating organic food?
I’ve been thinking of switching to eating organic because everyone says how healthy it is. But really, what’s so healthy about it? When you look at the back of labels of a lot of organic food, there’s so much fat, sugar, and sodium… which is NOT healthy.

So what is it? What’s so healthy or great about organic foods?

No pesticides. It’s a scam in my opinion though.

What is the best organic and healthy lotion to use on your face without chemicals?

Question by SB: What is the best organic and healthy lotion to use on your face without chemicals?
I would prefer something I can use daily that has no chemicals or harmful products. I would like something affordable that works, and eventually improves the skin on my face without growing dependent on the lotion, like with other creams. Thats why I heard organic creams are the best for this. Can anyone recommend a high potency organic face cream?
